, Chilean population have paid little attention to the problems deriving from inadequate intake \ of vitamins. This is due to a number of factors: in the first place, the impact of vitamin deficiency on morbidity and mortality in the population is slight; secondly, since 1955 a program has been under way, and has already I been found to be effective, for enriching bread with thiamine, riboflavin, and niacin; and thirdly, there is a wide national distribution of vitamin preparations. Research into subclinical nutrition problems is difficult because of the notoriously non-specific nature of the clinical signs and the difficulty of biochemical testing in significant groups; furthermore, the data obtained need to be compared with the recommended patterns of intake, and the biological exactitude of these is debatable.
